Feature-Based Modelling of Laryngoscope Blades for Customized Applications

چکیده

Abstract Laryngoscopes are used as diagnostic devices for throat inspection or an aid to intubation. Their blade must be geometrically compatible with patients’ anatomy provide a good view doctors minimal discomfort patients. For this reason, paper was aimed investigate the feasibility of producing customized blades. The customizable model developed following feature-based approach eight morphological parameters. thickness such determined through numerical simulations ISO certification tests, where finite element mesh obtained by morphing ‘standard’ mesh. procedure applied: built from selected parameters; tested in silico ; finally, produced additive manufacturing innovative biodegradable material (Hemp Bio-Plastic® -HBP-) claimed feature superior mechanical properties. evidenced that properties current materials unsuitable application unless norm is revised, it expected.

Comparison of two Macintosh laryngoscope blades in 300 patients.

BACKGROUND There are two forms of Macintosh laryngoscope blade. Compared with the standard blade, the English blade is longer, its curve is more continuous across the entire length of the blade, the flange of the blade continues much closer to the blade tip, and the height of the flange is shorter. METHOD We studied 300 patients to compare the ease of laryngoscopy with each type of Macintosh ...

Design evaluation of commonly used rigid and levering laryngoscope blades.

BACKGROUND The shape of a laryngoscope blade affects the exposition of the larynx. This study evaluates and compares some rigid and levering blade designs based on previous investigative X-ray laryngoscopic studies. METHODS Five rigid laryngoscope blades (Miller #3, Standard Macintosh #3, Classical Macintosh #4 and English-Macintosh #3 and #4) and two levering laryngoscope blades (McCoy in ne...

Intubation is one of the basic procedures of anesthesia. The reported frequency of difficult intubations is between 1.5% and 13%, which is a problem that requires a prompt solution. Although the likelihood of a difficult intubation can be estimated from preoperative measurements and scoring systems, obtaining direct access to the glottis during preoperative direct laryngoscopy can be difficult....
